This project will be a part of a co-curricular project between the Kansas History and English Language Arts. In this project we are asking for a variety of books that deal with topics in the history of Kansas. The English students will be asked to read a nonfiction book about Kansas history and submit a nonfiction book report. These same students will then be expected to complete a project based learning (PBL) project using the selected topic from the non-fiction book they read. The PBL will follow the teachers' criteria including an extensive presentation given to an invited audience. This PBL will take the place of the classroom final.
It is the intent of this project to stimulate learning and appreciation of what the people of the past did to give us the Kansas of today. Hopefully by completing this project the students will appreciate the state in which they live.
