Math at the Kindergarten level is very hands-on and concrete. As a teacher my goal is to move children from the concrete using manipulatives to the abstract. Being that I work in an inner city, public school extra money for fun, creative math supplies is hard to come by. Consequently any supplemental materials I may wish to use to engage learners, draw them into a lesson, or have them create and explore math with have to be purchased out of pocket by me.
The magnetic easel will be used for doing addition, sorting, patterning, writing numbers and much more! The ten frames we use all year to make and break numbers, compare, count and add and subtract. The geostix and snap and slide boards will be great for extra focus in small groups or to be used during free choice time. And the magnetic 120 chart will be a tangible way for children to learn about sequence in numbers, counting by 1's, 2's, 5's, and 10's!
