My students love playing on instruments. Instruments allow them a chance to create and explore their creative skills. I am working to build the collection at my school, and each new addition is greeted with excitement and enthusiasm from my students. Every good ensemble needs a bass, and the addition of a bass xylophone would allow my kids to hear musically how an ensemble should be balanced. Having an additional instrument will also give more students a chance to perform on the instruments.
I firmly believe that every child can find some aspect of music that sparks their interest. For many students, that is performing on instruments. The student who is struggling in the math classroom, may be the student who is able to play an accompaniment on the xylophone on the very first try. Music builds confidence in kids. Playing on instruments encourages students to listen to others and work together. They also are able to develop fine motor skills.
