Using puppets in the music classroom is a wonderful way to engage students, develop self-confidence, and create a magical environment! Whether using a cat to "meow" or a owl to "whoo," puppets are a great way to foster vocal exploration and pitch-matching. Likewise, puppets have a magical way of encouraging solo singing in the students.
Singing alone can be scary or a bit overwhelming to some students, but if they think they are singing to a puppet, their perspectives can change dramatically!
Furthermore, puppets help develop creativity in students! Creating their own tunes is the highest form of musical thinking. Puppets are an imaginative and non-threatening way for students to create their own tunes, simply by having "singing" conversations with different puppets!
