The flexible seating I have selected will allow for my students to have some control over their own learning, increasing autonomy and self-regulation. By choosing how to sit, students are discovering how they learn best- sitting on a yoga ball or stool during table top activities or choosing a floor disc or stadium seat to use during whole group circle time.
My students require frequent movement to stay on task and when kids are taught to identify and honor their preferences for movement, fidgeting, and alternative positioning, they feel that their needs are being acknowledged, contributing to increased engagement and motivation in the classroom. I want to provide my students with the ability to choose their own learning environment teaching them how to become problem solvers who can identify how they are feeling and what works best for them.
