I engage the students in hands on, multi-sensory to connect language with letters and words. We practice decoding skills with a variety of activities such as; magnetic letters, dry erase boards and dry erase markers. We practice and play with letter names and sounds so students can connect letter sounds with written words. We practice these skills until the students can independently use these skills and apply them in unknown situations. These hand on activities engage students in learning and help students strengthen their ability to connect letter sounds to words and eventually decode and encode words independently and fluently. In other words, these activities build the foundations of reading.
