Working at a STEM school, we know that many of our students would rather set themselves on fire than read a book. With this in mind, our language arts department wants to integrate student choice by providing novels for literature circles. Students will be able to select a novel from a list of 5-6 options in order to engage in discussion and analysis with their peers. By giving students choice in their reading, we are giving them ownership in their education. We also hope that these texts will be used on our school's digital days, as students have the option of working from home on Fridays. We hope that this endeavor will lead our students to become lifelong readers.
