Throughout the course of the year, my students dissect small specimens and individual organs in order to connect structure and function of organ systems. The rabbit dissection is a capstone investigation where all the knowledge and skills my students have acquired over the course of the year comes to fruition. They begin the investigation with muscle dissection and identification then move on to a comparative anatomy of the internal organs between their bodies and rabbits. My students look forward to this investigation. From the first day of school, they ask "when are we going to dissect the rabbits?". The rabbit dissection is an excellent investigation to allow my students to demonstrate their knowledge of the human body, laboratory and problem-solving skills.
