I work in a special education classroom providing direct, therapeutic intervention to students who are identified as having speech-language impairments. Each week, I serve over 50 students at my elementary school in order to improve their communication skills. The needs of each individual student range from mildly to severely impaired. The students exhibit challenges with articulation, fluency, expressive language, comprehension, or social communication skills. These weaknesses negatively impact their ability to express their desires, needs, and knowledge to their peers, teachers, family members, and community.
