By giving students access to books from a variety of titles, topics, and reading levels, they are given more of an opportunity to be excited about growing their reading skills. The books selected appeal to a variety of individual interests and offer relatable themes, circumstances, and settings to appeal to and connect with every student.
Although our students may not have an economic advantage in the domestic domain, I see it as a privilege to be able give them academic equity in the literary domain. This is why they need books. Books, books, and more books. Books that excite them, intrigue them, and inspire them to wonder! Books that tell their story and the story of others like them. A book in the hands of a child has the potential for limitless opportunity. All we need is to do is get that book into those hands.
