The rug is an essential part of our learning. We visit on the rug several times a day. The large carpet will be placed in the front of the classroom. This is where 50% of instruction will take place. It becomes our living room. I want this spot to be inviting and comfortable. This is where the class as a whole comes together and the curriculum in shared in a non-threatening manner. We share math strategies, comprehension questions, as well as feelings about our day/week. The rug is also used during reader’s workshop. Students have the freedom to find a spot of their own while enjoying a good book.
