In second grade, students are continuing to master reading with fluency. Listening to someone read a story to them is one of the best ways to improve their fluency; they can hear the rate of speed in the reader’s voice, reading with expression/emotion, and hear the pauses at punctuation. Unfortunately, I can not always be reading aloud to them and some student’s don’t have parents at home that can read English, or have the time to read to them. These books on CDs will be a much needed addition to our guided reading rotations. When a student has mastered their fluency in reading, their comprehension levels go up as well.
