These materials will help our students with their emotional, physical, and academic needs within a small group setting. With flexible seating, sensory materials, and soft space materials we are able to create a safe place for our students to learn in the manner that best supports them.
Not all students learn best at a desk! Flexible seating, such as wobble stools and wobble cushions, give students choice in where they learn. Choice can allow students more control and thus provide a more conducive environment for learning. Sensory materials, such as bubble timers and foot bands, help students manage displaced energy and attend to the task at hand. The calm down area we are attempting to build in our classroom is the final element of creating a safe space. A calm down area with soft mats and seating allows our students a place to decompress when they become overwhelmed by tasks that are difficult for them.
