My students spend a lot of their day in a plastic chair. It can be uncomfortable and difficult for kids ages 5-10 to sit for long periods of time. Flexible seating allows students to move wiggle, rock, or bounce while learning which results in more oxygen flowing to the brain and more focused learning. Making sure students are comfortable and have a choice in seating is an essential component in motivating them.
When my students are given an alternative seating option, they are more engaged in learning. Currently I have one wobble chair on loan from another teacher and I use it in each of my 5 classes. There are visible benefits to the student using the stool and I would like these benefits to reach more of my students. Whether it is to get the wiggles out, to focus attention, or increase student choice in the classroom, the wobble stools and cushions will be a great asset to my students and their learning.
