There are many benefits to flexible seating in the classroom. Students have a sense of choice, community, collaboration, movement, comfort and sensory stimulation. Students feel empowered when they get to choose where they work and with which other students. They can change their location throughout the day. Students are allowed to share their work space and supplies. Flexible seating allows students to find a comfortable spot throughout the classroom.
Comfortable students are productive learners! Students can work in small groups, with partners or alone. Flexible seating has positive stimuli that help students with ADD or ADHD. My students will benefit greatly from flexible seating because they can gauge their learning and make choices of where to work.
