My goal is to use flexible seating to transform my classroom into a positive environment where students feel safe, engaged, comfortable, eager and excited to learn and succeed together all year long!
In my second grade classroom, there is a wide range of student backgrounds, needs, and learning styles and flexible seating is the way to help me accommodate all of those needs within one classroom.
Most adults don't enjoy spending 8 hours at a desk, so it is crazy to expect 7-8 year old students to enjoy that! I'm hoping for these resources to provide my students with flexible seating options for them to make choices, explore and discover their best learning styles, take control of their learning and find a love for learning. By learning in a comfortable space, students will be more eager to learn, feel safe to take risks, be creative and complete their very best work and thinking.
Student choice and flexible seating options are exciting for all students and meet the needs of students who wish to stand, lie down, spread out, sit on the floor or pillows, or sit on stools of different sizes. Organizational materials, such as book bins, allow each student to have an individual place of their own to keep their personal supplies and materials safe and organized. Once students feel comfortable, safe, valued and happy in the classroom, the true learning (as well as a love for learning) begins!
