A classroom rug, interactive building materials, and flexible seating will be educational tools that are utilized everyday in order to enhance our classroom environment, community, and student engagement. A majority of my whole class instruction will take place on the rug. Primary age students are more successful learners when they are closer in proximity to their teacher. A rug will also help my students be more spatially aware and easily transition to our morning and closing circles.
A six hour school day is mentally and emotionally exhausting for 7 and 8 year olds, which is why they need opportunities for creative free choice. Magna-Tiles and Legos are a second grade favorites that among many things provide fine motor practice, encourage creativity and team work, and are fun and rewarding!
All students benefit from movement and flexible seating options. The Balance Disc provides in chair and on the floor seating for those wiggly 7 and 8 year olds. They can also be extremely beneficial for students health by providing multiple opportunities for movement. Contributions to this project will help create a positive learning environment that inspires curiosity, enthusiasm, and hard work.
