The yarn and trash bags will be used to create Poi balls so the students can learn/experience the art of Poi from the islands of Aotearoa (New Zealand). The sarongs and leis/flowers will be used for students to be in costume when learning the beautiful art of hula from the Islands of Hawaii. With these items I will be able to give the students a hands-on experience helping them to truly embrace these cultures that may be new to them.
Having just moved to Denver, CO from O'ahu, Hawaii, I want to spread the beautiful culture from the Polynesian islands to the Rocky Mountains. I want students to have the opportunity to learn something they may have never thought imaginable. I taught this class in Hawaii, but I think it would be amazing to open it up to the students in the Rocky Mountains.
