We have a very culturally diverse student body with over 20 native languages represented at our school. Our students are predominantly from low income backgrounds and face the typical struggles that poor students face... gangs, violence, hunger. What I like about our students is that, when given the support, they seize opportunities to better their lives through their education. They participate in tutoring programs, sports, and clubs. We strive to teach our students not to be the victims of their circumstances, but rise to the potential we know they are capable of. And they do! Our test scores have risen in the last 4 years because of the dedication from students and staff. I also teach many special needs students. Ordinarily my technology curriculum is considered to be outside the range of ability of these students, but with the support of their classmates and their drive to succeed, they too are able to program robots, construct electronics circuits, and navigate an AutoCAD program.
