By having daily access to a chrome book, my students will be eager to work on mastering their basic facts. The past school year my students have been successfully using a program called Xtra Math to aid in their basic fact mastery and fluency. However, we only have access to technology as a whole class once a week.
With the addition of a small group set of chromebooks, my students will have daily access to technology and in turn be able to work through an individualized program that will help students master their basic facts with fluency and accuracy - quickly and effortlessly.
Once students have achieved automaticity with basic facts in all four operations, they have attained a level of mastery that enables them to retrieve them for long term memory without consciously effort or attention. In later elementary, students have longer and more complicated computations to complete and if at this stage students do not have their math facts memorized, he/she will spend a disproportionate amount of time figuring out small calculations instead of successfully completing the entire problem.
My students will also use their chrome books to access a program called Study Island that is completely aligned to the Pennsylvania state standards. Study Island assists in preparing my students for the PSSAs.
