In order to keep the peace, we need to keep busy, busy, busy. And what better way to keep little people busy than by addressing their sensory needs. We have turned my classroom into what we call the "Get Up and Go" room. It is designed to allow the children the opportunity to get up and move in, on, under and every way in between.
The Get Up and Go room, started 5 years ago with help from Ðǿմ«Ã½.org, is starting to show its age. The therapy bands have broken or lost their snap. Yuk-e-balls have leaked and lost their yucky appeal. The sit-n-spins take two people to turn. It is time to update and improve on a great original idea.
The Get Up and Go room is more than just having fun; we tie all of our activities back to our academics. If we are studying animals, the children might find stuffed animals hidden in the ball pit and then have to to put the animal in a proper category. Or, move like an animal on the mats. Fun is fun and learning is much better when you are having fun.
