Students today are often fed a lot of information. In today's world children have a difficult time being engaged with reading. An important role is the absence of having adults read to students to share in the joy of reading and story-telling.
This absence of story-telling in the development of children is especially prevalent in the community where I serve. Students may not live with their parents, or their parent/guardian may not speak English, not have an education themselves, or even have the time due to multiple jobs. With that, students do not get to have the benefits and see the joy in reading and story-telling.
