It is no secret that NYC school buildings are old and so are their pipes. Therefore, my students will not drink water directly from the water fountain, which increases their exposure to lead, instead they will drink fresh water that has been filtered.
We will work as a community to share the responsibility of taking care of our water bottles and use them appropriately. For instance, the water monitor will be in charge of filling up the water bottles in the morning. Water breaks will be embedded in the daily schedule after movement breaks and mindful exercises. Children will be encouraged to notice how water helps their bodies refresh and clear their minds. Together, we will be active participants of our well being while growing stronger and smarter.
