Using chalkboards for teaching and learning is so outdated, especially at an innovation school. Every year my students grow tired of cleaning chalk and chalk dust off of the boards and their ledges daily. Some students are allergic to the dust and often have to leave the room when the boards are being cleaned. Currently, we have a nice class set of individualized whiteboards and it is clear how easy and convenient they are to use and maintain. Having a class sized whiteboard to attach to one of the walls so that students are able project their work and write using whiteboard markers would make learning more fun and would allow for more time to be spent on learning instead of filling water buckets and sponge cleaning the chalkboards.
