Most of the books I chose are in Spanish. Good academic Spanish books can be hard to find and expensive to purchase. I have chosen books that directly align with Common Core State Standards, and that will facilitate learning within our thematic units. I also chose picture books. This is very important for students learning in a second language. A lot of the time, pictures are how the students are able to attain academic vocabulary. These picture books make the content accessible for all learners.
They will also support learning in different ways. I use hands-on learning, teamwork activities, art projects, and read aloud books to enhance our units. These books will allow students to access information that we are learning, in the target language. I plan to use these books in a read aloud setting on the carpet. They are often used as a unit opener and throughout the unit to build on current themes. While we are studying a unit I also leave the books in the classroom library for students to read and explore after they have finished assignments.
Thank you so much for your support in helping my students with learning through reading!
