The resources I chose included crayons and colored pencils that will more accurately represent the beautiful skin colors that exist in my kindergarten classroom this year. My goal as a first-year teacher is to create a classroom environment where students feel welcome, appreciated, and celebrated.
One way that I will share the importance of these materials with my students is by reading the book titled The Colors of Us, written by Karen Katz. Stories are a great way to share important messages with primary students. All of my students are unique and bring so many exciting experiences to our classroom. Creating more exciting experiences is what kindergarten is all about!
