Collaboration learning is a fundamental part of education. I believe it's a must in science class! Grouping students to work together has grown to be challenging due to the conditions of the desks in my classroom. I would like to convert the desks to tables to better allow for hands on learning while maintaining group structure. The different shapes of tables would allow me to pair students in groups of 3s and 4s and also allows for differentiated learning.
Paired with flexible seating, I hope to give my students a fun and comfortable learning environment that promotes team work!
By replacing standard desks with tables, my students will begin to see how scientists work and collaborate with others to achieve a goal. Grouping is essential for increasing engagement in the classroom and is a great way to help improve and polish communication and professional skills. Going to lab shouldn't be the only time students are able to work together. With your help, these tables will give my students the opportunity to engage in project based learning, have easier transitions when completing learning stations, and ultimately intrigue their interest in STEM. With your help, I can give my students a collaboration lab feeling in the classroom too! Thank you!
