Two of the most influential factors in reading success are easy access to high-interest books and student choice in reading. Independent reading work is fundamental to improving student achievement in reading. My students need on-site access to a wide range of books (fiction and non-fiction) that challenge their perspectives, capture their imagination and invite them to engage in their reading at increasing levels of complexity.
Reading is magic. It transforms our hearts, ignites our minds and transports us across space and time. These books begin the process of building an in class library for my students where they can discover the kind of reading that lights a spark in them, the kind of reading that can follow them forever.
