Students learn best when their learning environments are set up to support them with their individual learning needs. In our classroom, we provide flexible seating and dedicated work spaces for all our learners. At times, students work at their desks, or on the floor with a teacher. A common occurrence is when the students get up from their desks and their chairs... "Screeeeeeech". Almost every student is interrupted, and everyone looks toward the source of the noise. With a basic modification such as a tennis ball placed under the chair and desk legs, we can reduce the noise, allowing for students to move through the learning space without interrupting their peers. This adjustment can support all learners, especially those who have difficulty with staying focused during lessons, partner work or during independent work time, by reducing auditory stimuli in the classroom. With this added modification, the classroom can continue to be space where all learners can be set up for success.
