Throughout my 15 years of being an educator, I have noticed a need for all students to be able to work individually using online classroom performance systems. These systems are wonderful because they level each student right where they are at by grade level, and help fill in their learning gaps with amazing digital lessons set up especially for them. These online tools allow students to work at their own pace, while providing the required rigor needed to help them master the skills they are missing. This is a huge help to teachers, because each student in the classroom can be in a different place educationally with different needs. Giving students the opportunity to work individually for an hour a week can aid teachers by giving them valuable data to help them serve their students right where they are at educationally.
I have been serving ELL students for the last 15 years, and because they are learning English as a second language, they need time to work online listening and actually seeing English written in front of them. My ELL students benefit and grow as English speakers and writers the first year they are able to interact online.
There are many great online performance systems out there, but unfortunately most of these learning systems cost way too much money for small school districts to purchase. Brain Pop is a system that can be purchased by an individual teacher for a year and will cover several students enrolled in her classroom. The price is very reasonable and the system is top notch.
