I have been in deep thought about "Early Bird" work that the students begin working on when they enter the classroom each morning. I have seen the way my students look at their worksheets in the morning. I have seen the boredom on their faces with no excitement about the day ahead of them. We need hands-on materials to get students engaged the minute they walk in the door, what's better than STEM bins!? With these hands-on materials, the students will be able to have an alternative to "Early Bird" work that will make them eager to come in and get seated and working with their table friends.
These materials will help the students to think outside of the box early in the morning, which will help their brains stimulate and get to thinking in ways they didn't know their brains could think.
We are asking for magna tiles, a variety of different types of blocks, playstix, geo boards, and more. They will be able to express themselves in ways they couldn't do with a worksheet. The students will be having so much fun, and they won't even realize they are learning! SCORE! :)
My students are VERY active. With these materials, every morning, the students will have the opportunity to create and think outside of the box.
I know that my students will benefit greatly from these materials. I think my students will be excited to come into the classroom each morning to see what box they get to use that day. After they are able to play, talk, and laugh together, they will come to the carpet ready to learn!
