I am requesting the books to engage my students in cultural responsive reading. It is important for children to read books about people who look like them. Most of my students are struggling readers, if readers at all, I hope having books that are culturally relevant will inspire my students to become advent readers. I also requested stools. This will give students options and allow some freedom in choosing a comfortable place to read. I am a new teacher and I want to create a safe haven for my students. Providing a classroom that has books, decor, and visuals students can relate to culturally, will hopefully spark newfound enthusiasm for learning.
