Flexible seating will allow students the ability to choose which seating works best for them. The items I have chosen will give them additional choices to meet their needs during class. Currently, I allow students to choose where to sit and work. They can grab a clipboard and sit or lay on the carpet to work, sit under tables, choose a different table to sit. Students are more engaged and motivated when given choice in their learning. They learn to make good choices that will encourage them to work harder. This environment also makes the students excited to come to school.
Research shows that students who are given an opportunity to move retain information better. Primary students are active by nature and learn with movement. For example, the Wobble Stools are great for students who have difficulty sitting still while working or listening. The stool makes it possible to move without disturbing others or injuring themselves. The wobble cushion can be used in a chair or on the floor. It is two sided with one side being large nubs and the other side being small nub giving students the sensory they choose. Giving the student a chance to wiggle without disturbing others. Who doesn't love a beanbag? It is soft and cushy. Students will be able to use these for reading or collaborating on a project. The floor seat has cushioned seat and back making it great for reading or writing using a clipboard.
