My students need a big boost of "This is Me." I want to build self-confidence in their artistic ability while allowing several opportunities to contribute to the school community using post-it notes and sharpies in a school-wide mural collage. This will allow them to positively view and support students artists from every grade level and have a sense of belonging and ownership in their surroundings. They will do this by making small works of art that communicate to others with symbols, colors, and ideas about themselves and others.
We will have "art walkabouts" to view the mural. This will be an opportunity for students to discuss other artists works and share information about their own artwork and receive positive feedback. To help them better facilitate this project they will receive instructions on design elements, using symbols to represent ideas, self-expression, how to critique, community art and its impact on your surroundings and beyond.
