The instrumental music program at our school is a very popular choice for students. However, with limited funding, we are always patching instruments together, running out of necessary materials, and unable to repair old instruments. As enrollment goes up, we are unable to provide all the necessary supplies to our students.
We want every student to have the opportunity to participate in the orchestra program, regardless of income. As a Title I school, we have a large number of students on free or reduced lunch. Their families are unable to provide school supplies for them, or cover the costs of renting an instrument. We strive to get a school instrument in the hands of every child in need, so that they have the same ability to participate in the orchestra program. We have far more students than instruments, and over the years many of our instruments have fallen into disrepair. We are hoping to purchase a 1/8 size cello for the school. This instrument will be loaned each year to a student who is financially unable to provide their own, giving them equal opportunity to participate in the orchestra program.
