My school is located in an urban area with high poverty levels. My fourth graders come to school willing to learn, regardless of their low socioeconomic status and the countless problems they face at home. The vast majority of our students are English Language Learners. They have very limited exposure to the world outside of their neighborhood. School is a safe haven for them and we treat our classroom like our second home.
