The students in my class and in our school are growing up in a relatively newly developed community. Just 7-10 years ago, this community was made up of farms and not many houses. Now there are 11 schools and not too many farms left. Many of these students do not get out to the surrounding suburban and urban areas. They crave information about the outside world. Fourth grade is a time of transition. It is a time when students are reading to learn and not learning to read anymore. It is also a crucial time when students rise to the responsibility they will need to be successful in future grades.
