Having a carpet in my room will give my students a place to complete hands-on activities with manipulatives during differentiated instruction. The stools will be used as an alternative to traditional desks and chairs at a teacher-led station, where the students will be receiving additional help on areas where the they experience difficulty.
Offering alternative seating helps foster a positive learning environment. The common desk can make students territorial over their space and supplies. Giving them alternative seating options will encourage the students to share both. It will also give them the opportunity to take turns in different locations and with different seating. These areas will also instill a sense of community where they can work together and share ideas.
I have seen how collaborating with each other helps my students progress in and out of the classroom. I know that these additional seating options will help them grow academically as well as socially.
