Students will learn to play the Ukulele and perform in school as well as in the community. They will begin by learning basic chords which will enable them to accompany familiar folk tunes. Throughout the school year they will progress to learn more complex chord progressions and strumming techniques. The unit will culminate with a composition project in which students will compose and accomplish their own songs within a set of guidelines.
In addition to becoming independent musicians, this unit provides students with many opportunities for partner and small group work. It will build confidence, pride, self esteem and school spirit.
