I am asking for a new water fountain for our hallway. We all know the importance of a great lesson and classroom materials. But we often underestimate the power of teaching the whole child. Our school still makes outside play a priority! ...and when kids play, they are thirsty! Currently, our hallway has one water fountain to service approximately 240 students, grades kindergarten through 3rd grade. The shape and size of the current fountain makes bottle filling impossible. This is a problem post- recess, and at other transition times during the day.
Having a bottle filling station in our hallway will provide fresh filtered water for all of our students throughout the school day. The bottle filling station will provide healthier hydration! Swapping out soda for water is an easy way for young kids to form a healthy habit. It will also reduce waste. According to research 80 percent of plastic bottles end up in the dump. This filtered water bottle filling station will serve as an alternative to one- time use plastic water bottles. The water bottle filling station will encourage the use of tap water, and it will make safe, healthy water free and accessible!
