My goal is to give my students every opportunity to be successful in my 9th grade math class so that at the end of the year they can pass their state mandated test.
In order for them to be successful in my math class, they need to be able to use a calculator. At the end of the year students are required to take a state mandated test and they can use a calculator on that test. If they are familiar with the calculator that they have been using all year, they will not lose precious time trying to figure out how to manipulate their calculators.
We have also implemented an interactive notebook in my classes this year. This puts all students' notes and classwork in one place and all papers are glued in so that they cannot get lost. Studies have also proven that colors and being able to interact with notes allow for more retention of information, thus the need for the colored paper.
