My students learned so much from the recent batik workshop provided for them that this project will give the students an opportunity to give back to the school community. Working in groups, the students will brainstorm positive four letter words that describe the school community. Next the fifth graders will study paintings by artist Jasper John. Then each group will paint their positive word using a preselected set of bright colors. Finally each word will be framed. These 24 positive words will be displayed in the school. This will provide the fifth grade students with the chance to say thank you to the community for the exciting art experience they provided them.
