The 9th-12th grade elective art classes at our school will be exploring the ancient Japanese fabric dyeing technique, Shibori. In this lesson, the students will not only understand more about the fiber arts but they will learn about a completely different culture than their own.
Students will design and dye their own fabric square using traditional techniques of sewing, pressing, and banding the fabric to form their pieces. The students will also have the option to participate in a large group piece including mixed mediums such as fabric dyes, inks, felt, and other materials the student deem appropriate.
