If you could create a new class at your school, what would you study? Tell me about what inspires you? Make a list of your "I wonders...", or your favorites. Questions like these were presented to my third graders. The responses were amazing: Computers! Coding! Blogging! Video game creation! Robotics! Their responses are what eventually led each student to choose a Passion Project. Not surprisingly, the vast majority of these projects related to digital technology.
Students are part of a new generation-one that is surrounded with technology. As an educator, my job is to fuel their curiosity and expose them to a technology-rich environment . What better way than to provide hands-on learning exploring their passions with a new digital experience. My third graders have experience with a traditional Chromebook. I'd like to introduce the Microsoft Surface Go 10 Pentium to students as another way to explore technology, using a touch screen, a surface pen, and a front/rear facing camera. If this project is funded, my students will each be required to use the Surface Pro for some aspect of their Final Passion Project presentation, whether it be through research, video production, camera shots, Surface Pen creations...the possibilities are limitless!
