My students are second language learners who live in a depressed neighborhood. Their parents are working two jobs to make ends meet, or they are out looking for jobs that don't exist anymore. Parents keep them inside where it is safe, and they don't have to worry about them. Despite that, they are thirsty for an education. I just want them to know that there is more to learning than filling out a worksheet.
