The goal is to provide an opportunity to engage the creative minds of young scholars. Funding will enable the development of a learning center that will function as a means to differentiate instruction and provide enriching experiences that will engage students who are more inclined to learn through technology. As an extension of literacy, students will also be able to explore the internet to gain instant access to online resources.
Fostering a culture of learning that taps into the individual needs and learning styles of all students is a necessary step towards teaching today's students how they learn best. This resource center will provide tools to enable students to listen to literature while reading and to research extensions of the reading assignments at their fingertips. The adopted text provides links that can be accessed to hear narration of the text which would be a beneficial resource for auditory learners. Experiencing the text orally can also be utilized as a method of engaging literacy whereas the student can hear a voice reading fluently beyond peers and the instructors. Modeling fluency can be utilized as a way to captivate reluctant readers and to foster a culture of growth mindset in terms of literacy.
Providing a reading center also allows an opportunity for differentiate instruction whereas the students will engage in learning experiences on individual need basis (remediation tool, individual educational program, needs assessment, enrichment for advanced learners). This will also afford the instructor to move forward with learners who demonstrate proficiency and mastery of content/learning objectives.
