It is difficult for me to find books with characters that my Latino students can relate to. I want to give them a story that is not only relatable, but also engaging. These books will spark the love of reading that my students need.
"I am not your perfect Mexican daughter" is a great story that I know my students will love. The main character's family is one that is similar to my students' families. My students will be able to see how they are not alone in their struggles. I want them to know that through reading they will be about to learn about themselves in a way that I as a teacher cannot show them.
