Learning is encouraged by play, active engagement, and immediate feedback. Using the game Balance Beans, students will learn pre-algebra skills for balancing equations through play.
Problem-solving skills will be developed as students learn to balance equations through play. Pre-algebra skills are necessary for students to be successful in higher-level math courses and through working with my Jr. High students have discovered that they need more interaction with manipulates and games to understand the math we are doing in class. Currently, we only have one of these games, which is a one-player game. It would be of great benefit for us to have a game for each student.
