Flexible seating will help my students stay engaged and focused on the rigorous fourth grade curriculum we have in the state of Connecticut. Fourth grade students are active and want to move throughout the day. Providing them with flexible seating allows them to move about while staying focused on the assigned task.
My students come from low income homes. We are a Title I school where many of the students do not have access to the resources that allow for a comfortable learning environment. Providing flexible seating in the classroom gives students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them, which will allow them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking. I have special needs students who will benefit from seating options that stimulate the sense of touch, resulting in greater focus for productive thinking. In my project I am asking for wobble stools, wobble cushions, ball chairs, floor seats, inflatable chairs, and bouncy bands. Providing this flexible seating will allow students to move safely without distracting others or themselves.
Teaching has always been a passion of mine and I want to provide the best possible tools for my students to be successful. This opportunity will not only help my students this year, but in years to come as well. Help me help them!
