My school is noticing a trend of more and more young children displaying inappropriate classroom behaviors. We also have children that are dealing with social emotional problems related to traumatic experiences.
One initiative that we have going on is Conscious Discipline. We are working to establish a sense of community and belonging. These materials would help my students by allowing them a social experience first thing in the morning. While the students are working it would also allow me time to check in with students and to set the tone for the day
Another initiative we have is play based learning. We know that kids who are busy and engaged will not have as many behaviors and will have a purpose to their learning. They will be allowed to create with these material and move around. They will be covering math and science standards and not even know it.
These materials will be used in place of a morning worksheet. Students will grab a tub and be able to work with building and creating while I check in with them and do attendance and other morning procedures. This will also be a time to practice social skills that we will be focusing on and to set the tone for a fun day.
Thank you for considering my project! I am excited to get it started!
